West Bromwich Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has revealed plans are underway to redevelop the Hawthorns.
Peace says extending the capacity will be done, regardless of which division they are playing in the future.
He told the club's website: "As of today we are now overseeing major works at the stadium, which will see the levelling of the pitch and the introduction of a Desso surface.
"Our medium-to-long term plans include the extension of The Hawthorns to around a 30,000-seat capacity within the next three years - regardless of divisional status.
"Despite the apparent financial insanity of such a move, we believe this is the right thing to do as we endeavour to move the Club forward and proactively encourage the next generation of supporters to come to The Hawthorns."
