West Bromwich Albion caretaker boss Keith Downing has confirmed talks with Pepe Mel are over.
Albion are no nearer to announcing Steve Clarke's successor, with Downing expecting to remain in the seat until into the New Year.
Downing said: "Will I have to stay on longer? I've not been told that.
"The media have picked up on the Spanish chap (Pepe Mel) who had the interview.
"We move on. It's unwise for me to get involved on that.
"I'm concentrating and focused on working with the players.
"I've got great support staff in Dean (Kiely) and David Oldfield."
