West Brom boss sees urgency in strengthening squad

Roberto Di Matteo is targeting new recruits following the 6-0 thrashing at Chelsea on Saturday. While West Bromwich Albion will face few stiffer tests than a trip to Stamford Bridge this term, the Italian is keen to bolster his squad for the challenges ahead.

He told the club's official website: "We're still trying to strengthen the team by bringing in a few new faces.

"We'll hopefully be able to do this and increase competition before the window closes."

The Baggies boss is now focused on lifting his players for the visit of Sunderland on Saturday as he targets his side's first points of the campaign.

Di Matteo added: "We'll have to pick the players up this week.

"But we've got our first home game next week - and it's a new game."
