Roberto Di Matteo feels that West Bromwich Albion are on track, despite a recent loss of form. The Baggies have taken just one point from their last five games, seeing them tumble down the table.
They have, however, secured 16 points from their opening 14 fixtures, and that is their best return at this stage of a Premier League season.
He accepts that things could, and perhaps should, have gone better over recent weeks, but he is confident that a reversal in fortune lies just around the corner.
"Compared to two seasons ago (when the Baggies had 11 points at this stage), we are in a much better position now," said the Italian coach.
"West Brom were then on 15 points after 19 games. We achieved that after nine games this season.
"I would have liked a few more points than we've got now but it's not a bad return."
Di Matteo added: "We know we've had a little dip in the last month or so but there have been reasons. We've had a few suspensions and injures and a few decisions have gone against us."
