West Brom boss Mowbray confirms deal close for Arsenal's Simpson

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed he hopes to snap up Arsenal striker Jay Simpson on-loan.

After defeat to Chelsea, Mowbray said: "I think it was quite evident today that we lacked the cutting edge or quality in the final third to seriously threaten Chelsea, whether that be a final ball, cross, through-ball or an effort on goal.

"Our team needs some help in that department.

"I would suggest Jay is an unknown quantity at Premier League level.

"Can he score goals? I don't know.

"But we'll hopefully give him an opportunity to see if he can.

"He's obviously had a very good upbringing at Arsenal and every player needs an opportunity.

"We'll hopefully be able to provide a platform for him to see if he's going to be, from his perspective, an Arsenal star of the future.

"Sometimes, all these young boys need is an opportunity to burst onto the scene and do the job."
