West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine has set Craig Gardner a goals target.

Irvine has backed summer arrival Gardner to hit his 10-goal target - if he is handed regular games in his preferred midfield position.

"That would be fantastic," said Irvine. "He shows he can get himself forward. He's a player who can bring goals to the team."

"We saw that when he played centrally. He was more of a threat than when he played as a wide player."
