West Brom boss Hodgson: We couldn't handle Man Utd without proper right-back

West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson felt they suffered without a regular right-back in defeat to Manchester United.

Hodgson turned to Gabriel Tamas for the 2-0 defeat.

"We missed Steven Reid and Billy Jones," Hodgson told the WBA website. "We've got two good right-backs at the club.

"Billy Jones was playing very well before he got injured.

"But I couldn't play Billy Jones because he's injured and I couldn't play Steven Reid because he's injured so I had to play a centre-back at right-back - and that's not ideal when you're up against a player like Ashley Young.

"That's the only choice we had.

"Quite frankly, there aren't too many teams in the Premier League who can put three quality right-backs on the field, you're lucky if you've got two."
