West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson says there's hope for Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba in making a playing comeback.

Hodgson was coaching Danish side FC Copenhagen in 2001 when ex-Wimbledon midfielder Stale Solbakken collapsed during training after a heart attack.

Solbakken was at 33 10 years older than Muamba and never played again.

But he did make a full recovery and is now coach of FC Cologne.

West Brom boss Hodgson said: "The same thing happened with Stale as with Muamba.

"I'm pleased to say he recovered 100 per cent and I can only hope the same will apply to Fabrice.

"Solbakken's heart stopped on the pitch during a training session and he was clinically dead for a period of time.

"We didn't train for three days after and shut the club down. Our enormous good fortune was that the doctor used by the club was there and Stale was in hospital with a heart specialist no more than 30 minutes after it happened.

"Stale had a pacemaker fitted, meaning the problem couldn't happen again. It gives hope to Fabrice."
