West Brom boss Hodgson says England talk on backburner for him and Spurs rival Redknapp

West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson says neither he nor Tottenham's Harry Redknapp are actively chasing the England job.

Hodgson is up against Tottenham boss Redknapp today in a battle of two coaches widely touted as future Three Lions managers.

But the Baggies chief said: "If you're talking about top jobs in football - national or club jobs - it should be about which manager suits the job.

"But it's obvious it doesn't matter what your profile or career record is. It's when the job comes up, have you won the last five games or lost five?

"Then we get into a serious debate of what is the most efficient way of choosing people for jobs. Is it over a long period with their profile and characteristics - or what's happened to them over the last month or two?

"So there's no reason for Harry or I to discuss potential roles in the future, because we don't know when those jobs come who will be the so-called winning coach whose name is on the back pages.

"We know that though. You're just asking me to state the obvious.

"When the England job comes up, who knows who will be the man of the moment. It's nice to have flattery if you're doing well like I was at Fulham. And now Harry is having the same thing at Tottenham.

"It's nice people are seeing us in that light.

"But we both have jobs to do and concentrate daily on what we're doing at our clubs. I certainly don't think of jobs that may come up next year."
