West Bromwich Albion are set to make an offer for Reading striker Shane Long.
The Guardian says the Baggies are expected to table a bid for Long this week.
Long, who scored 25 goals for Reading last season, would also stretch Albion's transfer budget, with the Championship club likely to demand more than £8m for the 24-year-old striker.
Roy Hodgson, however, is keen to sign the Republic of Ireland international and has registered his interest. Much now depends on whether Jeremy Peace, the Albion chairman, will sanction a bid for the striker, who is also being tracked by Everton, Newcastle and Sunderland.
