West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson was delighted with Billy Jones' performance in the derby victory over Wolves.

The 24-year-old has had to bide his time for a top-flight chance since joining the club on a Bosman in the summer.

But he was rewarded for his patience as he got the nod over the experienced Nicky Shorey at left-back against Wanderers - and grabbed the chance with both hands.

"Billy Jones has been really very good since he first came to the club," Hodgson told the WBA website.

"Every time he's stepped on the field he has done well. He's been very patient to get this chance.

"He could have been knocking on my door, especially as we've made some mistakes in the full-back areas, saying 'why not me?'

"He hasn't. He's waited patiently and I thought today he grabbed it with both hands."
