West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson hopes to have Craig Dawson available for the derby with Wolves.

Dawson is a doubt having taken a blow to his face during England's Under-21 game against Norway and needed seven stitches.

When asked whether Dawson would be available, Hodgson recalled the brave tales of two other sportsmen.

"Craig has a nasty scar," he said.

"He caught the player's boot and it's right in the middle of the forehead. He's a good-looking boy but if he carries on he'll end up like Bjore Salming, the Swedish ice-hockey player.

"I saw a picture of him once and they showed his body and what had happened to it. It was an absolute horror story.

''I think he'd had about 350 stitches, maybe even more. And then there were the broken legs, wrists and collarbones. We would hope Craig will be okay for Sunday. Looking at the wound it's possible.

"I remember Micky Harford after we sold him to Birmingham from Bristol City. He had the most horrific clash with another player.

"He played seven days later but that was Micky Harford for you."
