West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson has had to apologise for 'shamefully' throwing away a black armband worn in memory of legend Ray Barlow.
The Baggies boss ripped off his armband in frustration and tossed it to the ground during Sunday's 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United.
He was then slated by fans. One posted online: "Shame on you."
Hodgson said: "It's something I did without thinking out of frustration at conceding the third.
"I meant no disrespect to such a great player, nor his family, and offer my sincere apologies if it has caused offence.
"It was only right that Ray's family were invited pitch-side before kick-off for the minute's applause and I took this opportunity to pass on my personal condolences to them."
