West Brom boss fears losing Teixeira to Premiership clubs

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray fears losing French star Teixeira to Premiership raiders in January.

Teixeira, a £600,000 summer signing from Portuguese side Academica de Coimbra, was in imperious form as Albion brushed aside Midlands rivals Coventry 4-0 at the Ricoh Arena on Monday night to return to second place in the Coca-Cola Championship.

The midfielder scored two goals and made another for Robert Koren.

Scouts from the likes of Middlesbrough, Birmingham, Aston Villa and Wigan are regulars at the Hawthorns and Mowbray admitted: "There have been several Premier League scouts at a number of our matches this season and I am sure some of them will have been watching Filipe Teixeira.

"He showed his quality again (against Coventry) and, if the same thing happens as last season, it might be interesting to see what develops.

"He is having an excellent season for us, he has adapted to the English game very well and, if he continues in he same vein, I think he is a player who could play at a higher level.

"Not many people will have known that much about him when we brought him over here, but they sure do now.

"We wanted a player who could put his foot on the ball, control the game, get his head up and pick a pass to split defences and he ticks all of those boxes."
