West Bromwich Albion boss Roberto di Matteo is expecting big things from Sam Mantom.
The 18 year-old midfielder has just signed with Tranmere Rovers on-loan.
"Sam is a very talented boy and has a bright future," Di Matteo told the WBA website. "But we need him to play competitive games.
"League One is a nice league to start with at his age.
"We'll see how well he does and then we'll review it.
"He's grown physically stronger over the last 12 months and tactically he was always good. He's 18-and-a-half so he just needs to be a bit more robust.
"He's got the tackling ability and the understanding will come with experience. I have high hopes for him.
"I very much like the boy."
