West Bromwich Albion boss Roberto di Matteo is happy to work within the transfer windows system.
He admits the Baggies are having to bide their time as they look to capture the right targets.
"The situation is that we are a work in progress," Di Matteo told the WBA website. "We are trying to get things done and working away.
"I've always said that I wasn't going to do anything just for the sake of it - there is no point in that.
"It's anybody's guess what will happen. It's not always in our control so it's difficult to answer the question as to what will happen. We are West Bromwich Albion and we are trying to do our best. I can guarantee the staff are trying their hardest.
"I'm sure some deals will get done in the last few days as some clubs keep their options open. Sometimes a club gets one in then releases another one. We've seen it with Manchester City buying Dzeko and then Adebayor goes to Real Madrid, and so on."
The Albion chief added: "I think it's a good idea to be able to review things in January and be able to make changes. It gives you a chance to do things. Sometimes you might have injuries or suspensions.
"It is a necessity to have transfer windows.
"For many years it was for the whole season but this is better. This gives you more stability otherwise you could lose players at any time."
