West Brom boss Di Matteo: Carson can make World Cup squad

West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo insists Scott Carson can still make England's World Cup squad.

Carson, currently with three caps to his name, has not played for England for over 12 months.

With David James, Robert Green and Ben Foster now well ahead of Carson in the pecking order, it would seem unlikely at this stage that he would be in contention to make the World Cup finals squad.

But Di Matteo insists his number one is still more than capable of making it to South Africa.

"If Scott does well this season, by the end, when they choose the squad, he might have the chance to get in," Di Matteo said.

"He is out of the limelight, but if we have a good season, and he has a good season, he has the experience [to be recalled], and he has played for England before, which would be important."
