West Brom boss Clarke hails Gera performance

West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke was delighted with Zoltan Gera's performance for victory at Newcastle United.

Clarke revealed he will continue to utilise the 33-year-old wisely, claiming both he and Gera have accepted the fact he cannot start every game.

"Zoltan was terrific," beamed Clarke to the WBA website.

"He had a career-threatening injury last season and it took him a long time to come back from it.

"But we have nursed him back and tried to protect him.

"He's at the stage where you wouldn't want to play him every game. That would be detrimental to him.

"He accepts that fact and you see in the quality of his performances when we select him that he's always - for me - one of the better players."
