West Brom have offered £1 million for Millwall defender Zak Whitbread.

Texas-born Whitbread, 24, grew up in Liverpool and signed on at Anfield when he was eight.

But he made just five starts for the Reds and was off-loaded to Millwall in November 2005.

Bolton and Everton were sniffing around the former USA Under-20 ace but the Baggies are confident of completing the deal in January.
