West Brom ace Morrison eager to step out as Scotland skipper

James Morrison was shocked to be named Scotland captain this week but that won't stop him from putting his best foot forward.

The West Bromwich Albion midfielder will lead the Scots out in Friday's World Cup qualifier with Croatia in Zagreb and is determined to enjoy his role after being handed the armband by Gordon Strachan.

"I'm delighted. I was a bit shocked but also proud," said Morrison.

"I'll take this through the rest of my career and I just can't wait to get started now.

"I'll just do what I always do and try to lead by example. I'll try to encourage the players and try to get a performance."

He added: "I've had the armband in the FA Cup against Queen's Park Rangers and that was a very proud moment and something I enjoyed so I'm ready for the task again.

"All of this experience helps you going into a game.

"This might only be one time, I don't know, but I'm going to enjoy it.

"I've had a good season personally and I want to finish on a high - there is no reason why we can't."
