New Everton goalkeeper Stefan Wessels admits he's after Tim Howard's place.

The German signed a one-year contract with the Toffees yesterday from Cologne and wasted no time in issuing a warning to Howard.

Wessels said: "Tim is a really good goalkeeper but I will work hard to provide competition.

"I have signed for a year and I hope to stay longer.

"When Everton invited me here I was really proud to have the chance to come. I am looking forward to it."
