Stefan Wessels isn't ready to play second-fiddle to Tim Howard after making his Everton debut on the weekend.

The German goalkeeper impressed in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United and told evertonTV: "I don't know how long it will take for Tim to come back and you never wish a colleague to get injured but that is what I came here for.

"Tim is a very good goalkeeper who has played very well but when he is injured I would like to be there and to play well and I hope I will have some more chances."

He added: "There is more speed in England than the Bundesliga and it's a bit more aggressive and the atmosphere was great.

"The fans made me feel really welcome before during and after the game."
