Werder Bremen have failed with a bid for Tottenham midfielder Niko Kranjcar.
Werder chief Klaus Allofs has confirmed they've tried to sign the Croatia international.
"We have been looking at the chance to bring in this player," Allofs told Deutsche Presseagentur with regard to Kranjcar.
"Anyway, we were unable to materialise a deal at the very end. There was a chance to do that, but obviously the player's club did not want to risk the chance to go far in the Champions League as well as in the league."
Allofs added: "We will keep monitoring the chance to sign new players. We intend to find solutions, we want to improve. I am still in talks with player agents."
