Werder Bremen captain Clemens Fritz is backing their move for Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker.

The 32-year-old revealed last week he was open to a return to Germany at the end of the season.

Now Bremen captain Fritz has revealed he would be keen for Mertesacker to join the club.

"It would be a good thing for the club," Fritz told Bild.

Fritz played alongside Mertesacker at Bremen between 2006 to 2009.
