Wenger warns Arsenal not to be complacent over top four finishes

Arsene Wenger has warned Arsenal they cannot be assured of a top four placing - or they could go the same way as Liverpool next season. With now a fifth season having passed bereft of silverware at Emirates Stadium, Wenger will move to strengthen his squad in the summer.

The Frenchman, however, insists no-one at the club can afford to rest on their laurels if the Gunners are to once again stave off the challenge from the likes of Tottenham, Manchester City and Aston Villa.

"The team has made big progress this season, and we want to confirm it next year," Wenger said.

"You can see that it is important to continue to progress every year; look at Liverpool - second last year, this season out of the top four.

"We are conscious that the competition at the top gets harder and harder, and that demands a bigger focus from year to year.

"We have been in the top four for 14 years in a row, but we want more - and we will try absolutely everything next year to get more."
