Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told Gunners supporters not to abuse Robin van Persie when the striker faces his old club for the first time in the colours of Manchester United. "I hope it [reception] is a respectful one because he did very well for us [for eight years]," said Wenger.
"We campaign against discrimination, it was still the case last week so why should it not be the case this week?"
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson does not believe Van Persie will receive a negative reception from the travelling Gunners fans at Old Trafford.
"I don't think that will be a problem," he said. "I think the fans will recognise the eight years he gave them and it will be nice."
