The usual routine at Arsenal this season is to start Alexandre Lacazette and replace him with Olivier Giroud midway through the second half.
However, manager Arsene Wenger flipped the script in midweek, starting Giroud for the first time in the league this season, and naming Lacazette among the substitutes in the 0-0 draw against West Ham.
When asked about his reasoning, Wenger had the following to say: "Lacazette, despite all that was said, I played him a little bit with his groin problem and I don't want to go overboard.
"Olivier Giroud is doing very well. Many times I've repeated that, it's not irregular. For me, Giroud is a regular and, yes, he came on the other day and gave us a point again."
If Lacazette is fully fit by the weekend, he should get his starting spot back from Giroud. He is a big money summer acquisition, and has shown some good form. And Giroud appears to relish the role of super sub, scoring four league goals in his 13 substitute appearances this season.
