Wenger relieved Arsenal hold on to two goal lead

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was pleased to see the Gunners did not contrive to throw away another two-goal lead in the 4-2 victory at Aston Villa. Arsenal led 2-0 at half-time at Villa Park to put themselves in the same position as a week ago when they played fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

On that occasion, the Gunners lost 3-2 and there was briefly a cause for concern this Saturday when Villa pulled a goal back early in the second half.

"With 2-0 at half-time it happened again, it was quickly back to 2-1, but this time we managed to find the resources to keep scoring goals," Wenger told Sky Sports.

"At the end of the day overall it was a good game and a good performance from us.

"I think it was a very strong performance against a Villa side that is very dangerous and a good team."

The Frenchman was determined to avoid a repeat of the Tottenham nightmare.

He added: "We said at half-time, let's continue to try to go forward and score goals, but it's not only us who decides.

"Villa had a great response in the second half, they closed us down more and were really under pressure."

The Gunners boss continued: "I feel we are back. We lost two games against Tottenham and away to Braga, so it was important to win."
