Wenger puzzled as Almunia considers leaving Arsenal

Arsene Wenger cannot understand reports suggesting Manuel Almunia is destined to leave Arsenal. It has been claimed that the Spanish stopper will be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium in January, with a return to his homeland widely touted.

Lukasz Fabianski has become a regular in the side while Almunia has struggled with injury, while Wojciech Szczesny was handed a Premier League debut in the club's last run-out against Manchester United.

"We need three goalkeepers of top level," said the Frenchman.

"For example, on Monday night we had Wojciech make his debut in the Premiership and we had Fabianski on the bench. If something happens to one keeper you need three world-class goalkeepers.

"I can't talk about the future of players who are on long-term contracts.

"I am surprised that every time a player has to fight for his position that you think straight away that he has to leave, that is quite surprising to me. It is part of our job."
