Wenger pleased as Arsenal respond from Southampton debacle

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was most pleased with how his side were able to bounce back from the weekend's disappointment at Southampton.

On Monday night, the Gunners eventually dominated proceedings after a tight beginning to defeat Bournemouth 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium, returning to the summit of the Premier League table in the process.

The 4-0 Boxing Day loss to the Saints put a slight dent in Arsenal's title hopes but Wenger felt the response against the Cherries atoned for such a subpar showing.

"You can't go from the start of the season to the end without experiencing disappointment at some stage. Southampton was a big one," he said.

"It's all down to how well you respond and that's what was at stake in this game."

Gabriel Paulista scored his first goal for the club with a 27th-minute from a Mesut Ozil corner before the German playmaker was involved in a classy exchange with Olivier Giroud before slotting expertly beyond Artur Boruc for his side's second in the 63rd minute.
