Arsenal's Arsene Wenger made a bizarre comment regarding the recent injury suffered by Jack Wilshere.
The midfielder has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a fractured bone in his leg while on loan with AFC Bournemouth.
It is another injury setback in a long line of problems for Wilshere and although Wenger feels sorry for him, he says great players must shake off their fitness woes to play as many as 60 games a season, just like Cristiano Ronaldo.
Wenger also contradictorily said a great career only comes by being consistently present and that Wilshere's injuries will not stop him from reaching his potential.
"I was sad when I saw he had picked up the injury, because Jack is a great football player with a great football brain," said the Frenchman.
"His career has been stopped by many injuries. Today at the top level, the most important thing is the consistency of the presence. When a player has been out for a while, the game is of such an intensity that it always takes you a while to get your confidence back.
"A great career doesn't suffer from stop and go. You have to be consistently present. When you look at all the players who are at the top level in the world, like Cristiano Ronaldo, these guys play 50 or 60 games a year.
"They have the luck of not being stopped by injuries. You're always sad when a guy of that quality is stopped by problems.
"But I don't think it will stop Jack fulfilling his potential. The doubt is that you need to go on the pitch and not worry about being injured."
Not sure there is much you can do about a broken bone in your leg, Arsene!
