Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has jokingly apologised to the fans for giving them 20 years of suffering.
Wenger arrived at Arsenal during the summer of 1996 as a virtual unknown quantity and has since transformed the club into one of the most powerful organisations in English football today - whether or not their on-field performances have mirrored their off-field positivity.
Despite his good work, Wenger has been criticised in recent years for his failure to deliver trophies on a consistent basis and now the Frenchman has quipped that he is sorry to the fans for making them 'suffer' for two decades.
The 67-year-old said in the club's AGM on Monday: "Yes, it's 20 years. I'm sorry!
"I would like to apologise for every minute I made you suffer in these 20 years - but you don't look too bad for people who have suffered for 20 years.
"I am sorry for the boy who was born 20 years ago and has only known one manager. I would like to reassure him that when he is 40 he will know a few more."
