Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements in the winter transfer market.
The Gunners boss is keen on Bolton Wanderers centre-half Gary Cahill who has been valued at around £17million by manager Owen Coyle and is also looking at German international Per Mertesacker.
The Werder Bremen defender has been a target for Wenger in the past but a move has never eventuated. It is believed that the French tactician wants to bring in a new centre-back this week after having another key defender in Sebastien Squillaci go down with injury.
Whilst Cahill will cost the North Londoners plenty, Mertesacker is a cheaper proposition as he would only cost about £10million.
