Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes the Football Association's retrospective disciplinary powers are a deterrent for players, even if recent decisions have met with criticism. "It is a decision we have to accept," said Wenger.
"This decision is questioned, and people who make these decisions can answer these questions. I do not know why they made the decision.
"One positive thing is that this committee exists and that the players know that they can be punished even after the game, so that is very positive.
"After that, the decision is made by human beings and then you have to accept we will not always agree on the way the decisions are made.
"But it is a good thing that this committee and the whole (disciplinary) process exists."
Everton counterpart Roberto Martinez is, however, not the biggest fan of retrospective action.
He said: "I think in general I am not a big believer of going back to every single game and refereeing it because it would be impossible.
"I think there is a thin line. Clearly the players can't get away with everything, any wrong behaviour should be spotted, but you want that to be done on the day.
"You can look into every single aspect that can give as much help as we can to referees because it is one of the hardest jobs in the game but we shouldn't take things out of context.
"We should have some common sense in helping the referees as much as we can."
