Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is determined to splash out big on a new strike-force.

The Sunday Mirror says Arsenal are hopeful of completing a deal for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain , but are also pursuing other targets.

The Gunners made an opening £20m bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney and have asked to be kept in the loop over Liverpool's Luis Suarez.

A source said: "Apart from Higuain, Arsenal have enquired about two strikers based in the North West, Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez. Chelsea are also interested."
