Wenger confirms Europa League now Arsenal priority

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits the Europa League now is the priority over the Premier League.

Arsenal are down in sixth place – only two points ahead of Burnley - after failing to pick up a point on the road this year.

And Wenger said: "The Europa League is the priority because in the Premier League we go for not a lot. For us it is the priority now. But we still have things to play for in the Premier League.

"First of all because we are Arsenal Football Club and we want to win football games. Every game we play is important and we love to win. Of course we want to win our home games.

“I think at home we have had quite a good season. It looks a little bit strange. But if you look at home games you are third in the league. It is away from home we have failed. So it is absolutely important to maintain that record at home."

Asked if Arsenal need to win the Europa League to save their season – and qualify for the Champions League – Wenger said: “It would be better, yes. Of course it's a need for us."
