Wenger confident Walcott can bring Arsenal much-needed goals

Arsenal's need for a new striker is being countered by the fact that Theo Walcott has been scoring in pre-season.

The 26-year-old forward netted the only goal of the match as the Gunners defeated Wolfsburg 1-0 in the Emirates Cup on Sunday, prompting Wenger to suggest that perhaps his answer to the goalscoring question is already present in north London.

"It was another goal for Theo and I'm not surprised by that, because I played him through the middle," he said.

"I've always said that he's a goalscorer because he has the movement, he has the timing of the run, the speed for the finishing, and he has an eye for taking his chances at the right moments.

"When he gets into these positions, he finishes well. I believe that Theo will score goals."

Arsenal have recently been linked with the likes of Karim Benzema, Fernando Llorente and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but Walcott, who has made 13 Premier League starts over the past two seasons, essentially acts as a new signing for the Gunners this summer.
