Wenger buoyed by six-goal showing of Arsenal

Arsene Wenger was in a buoyant mood after Arsenal produced a 6-1 win over Southampton today.

The Gunners started the season slowly with two scoreless draws but have burst to life with a 2-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield and the dominant performance at the Emirates Stadium.

Gervinho scored a double with an impressive showing whilst Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott also got on the scoresheet as the Gunners cause was helped by two own-goals from the Saints and the performance was well-received by a proud Wenger.

"I'm very pleased. We had a first half of a very high level and combined very well at a high pace, looking always dangerous," he told Sky Sports.

"Overall I think our first half was top quality.

"We moved the ball at a very high pace and we have many players who can do that.

"We had a good combination of running pace and passing pace and that maybe gave problems to the Southampton team.

"The team performance was outstanding and there was a promising attitude and quality in our game today."
