Wenger backs Arsenal midfielder Wilshere to be ready for England

Arsene Wenger is confident Jack Wilshere will be fit enough to contribute for England at Euro2016.

The 24-year-old midfielder made his first start of the season in Sunday's final fixture against Aston Villa having missed almost the entire campaign with a leg injury.

Despite the fact Wilshere has appeared just three times at club level this term, Wenger believes his 69-minute performance in the 4-0 win will put him in good stead for Roy Hodgson's Three Lions.

"Yes, he has shown that again today," Wenger told Sky Sports when asked if Wilshere was ready to play for England in France.

"He will get stronger and stronger. He has a basic fitness but needs a few games now.

"He needs two, three games more and he will be ready for England."

Hodgson will name his 23-man squad for the UEFA tournament on Monday with Wilshere expected to be included.
