Wenger: Arsenal spirit is healthy, strong, determined

Arsene Wenger has spoken highly of the spirit and character within his Arsenal squad.

Alarm bells sounded when the Gunners were beaten 3-0 by Everton at Goodison Park on April 6 which placed their Champions League hopes in major doubt.

However, the north London club have bounced back with three wins on the trot including Monday night's 3-0 triumph over Newcastle United which now has them four points ahead of the fifth-placed Toffees, putting Wenger in a buoyant mood.

"We have gone through a difficult period, and Goodison Park was one of them," Wenger told Sky Sports.

"I believe that the spirit in the side is healthy, strong, determined and you can see that when the team is capable of bouncing back after a big disappointment."

Laurent Koscielny opened the scoring for the Gunners in the 26th minute when he stabbed home Santi Cazorla's free-kick from close range before Mesut Ozil added a second late in the first half.

Olivier Giroud netted his 15th goal of the Premier League campaign when he headed home Ozil's 66th-minute cross to wrap up the contest which allowed Arsenal to record their 22nd victory for 2013/14.
