Wenger: Arsenal hurt by poor refereeing

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists their trophyless season was down to bad refereeing decisions.

He said: "I want the new season to start straight away. I'd rather be involved in the Premier League than have to wait through the summer. This season we were really, really, really close and I don't think that any team has been punished more than we have.

"This year we have closed the gap. There have been a lot of times when it's been close between winning and losing. When these times happened we had everything against us.

"We have been punished by injuries and refereeing decisions this season. Against Liverpool is it a penalty on Hleb? Is it a penalty on Babel? Never, he didn't touch him.

"We have to start looking at next season and we want to start now working on what we are doing."
