Wenger on Arsenal future: Walcott at striker, Oxlade-Chamberlain centre-mid

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is excited about one of his young starlets.

One positive note in Tuesday's 3-1 Carling Cup win over Shrewsbury was the performance of £12million Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 18.

Wenger added: "Alex is in the squad for Bolton. If he gains some urgency in his defensive part, he is ready to play.

"I see Theo Walcott more as a striker and Alex as a midfielder. They are winger types but Theo is more interested in finishing the job or crossing the ball and Alex is more involved in the build-up.

"He can become a central midfielder later in his career."
