Arsene Wenger believes his Arsenal side are heading well and truly towards the Premier League title.

The Gunners currently sit second on the table, two points behind Leicester City, having recorded 36 points from 17 matches prior to Christmas.

Arsenal have been installed as the mid-season favourites to win the premiership but Wenger, with all of his positivity, took a prudent approach when asked of his side's title hopes.

"We have been top of the league in previous years and I think football is pragmatic," he said in the lead-up to the Boxing Day clash with Southampton.

"Nobody can predict what can happen in the next 17 games for example and you just want to go with the same attitude and spirit.

"The only thing I can say is 2015, if you look back and try to analyse it, we have been consistent.

"We have had quite a positive year and stabilised our defensive record and improved our record against the strong teams in the Premier League, so it looks like we are on the right train going the right way."
