Wenger admits keeping Arsenal midfielders happy is a tough job

Arsene Wenger admits the wealth of talent available in Arsenal's midfield makes it difficult for the Gunners boss to keep all his players happy.

Welsh international midfielder Aaron Ramsey will have to settle for a place on the right wing as Wenger appears set to stick with Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla as his preferred central midfield pairing.

While the number of options available may give Wenger the odd selection headache, the 65-year-old Frenchman believes the competition for places is healthy for his squad.

"How do I keep my midfielders happy? It's an impossible job," Wenger said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Monday night's meeting with Liverpool.

"But that's why I tell you I always get asked two questions – why don't you buy more players, and how do you keep them all happy now?

"I believe that competition is part of our job. On the other hand you have to get the number right. Too many players in the squad goes against competition. If you have a certain number of players who think they never have a chance to play, they killed something. Not enough players creates too much a comfort zone."
