Wenger admits contract uncertainty handicapped Arsenal last season

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that not resolving his contractual situation affected the Gunners' performances on the pitch last season.

Following another disappointing campaign last term, there was real pressure on Wenger to depart from his role as manager of the club upon the expiration of his contract and it was uncertain regarding as to what the Frenchman would do.

Eventually, Wenger penned a brand new two year deal after Arsenal's victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup Final but the 67-year-old has now admitted that refusing to commit his future to the Gunners early proved to be an aberration.

"For me it will be a change because it was a bit eternal, a repetition of the press conferences about that," Wenger told Arsenal Player.

"Maybe I made a mistake and allowed that to happen because I didn't commit early enough.

"I think at some stage I did not think it would be a handicap for my commitment and it was not. But it was a bit of a handicap because it created a climate of insecurity and a lack of clarity about my person that maybe did not help at some stage."
