Wellington striker Ifill eyeing big run to push for finals

Wellington Phoenix striker Paul Ifill is hoping the team can go on a positive run now and push into the top six in the A-League. The New Zealanders are currently one spot out of the finals but with a home game in Palmerston North against Sydney FC on Saturday evening, the club can begin a run of good form to make their intentions clear to the league according to Ifill.

"We still feel we are good enough to make the top six," said Ifill.

"We've slipped out but, if we can win on the weekend, we can go straight back in and a big run now would be a good bonus."

The Phoenix have the opportunity to record a new A-League record if they can either defeat or draw with Sydney this weekend and take their unbeaten home record to 15 games (they currently hold the record with Sydney), but Ifill said the players did not have that at the forefront of their minds leading into the match.

"We haven't really spoken about it," Ifill said in reference to the record. "For me, if you're at home, you're expected to win anyway."

Wellington host Sydney FC at FMG Stadium in Palmerston North on Saturday at 7:00pm local time (5:00pm AEDT).
