Wellington to stay in Oz for next two A-League clashes

With a five day break between its next two matches, the Wellington Phoenix will stay in Australia rather than return home. The Phoenix tackles Perth Glory this Sunday in Perth and will then fly direct to Sydney for next Friday night's clash with Sydney FC. Coach Ricki Herbert said it made common sense to stay in Australia rather than deal with a logistical nightmare. "It has a lot to do with the short turnaround between matches. Getting to Perth takes a whole day of travelling and we play them on Sunday. Then we have to back up against Sydney on Friday, so there's not a lot of time," Herbert said. "It makes sense to shorten the trip up and get into Sydney as soon as possible." But Herbert said he will not be using the travel concern as an excuse if Wellington were not to get desired results. "While the travel component is difficult, it's not something that we haven't had to anticipate," Herbert added. "It's the reality of the league and we just have to get on with it, make sure we understand the demands and do everything we can to ensure the group is prepared and ready to go."
