Wellington’s Daniel wants more responsibility
Wellington Phoenix winger Daniel is hoping he is given more responsibility in the Preliminary Final this weekend.
The 30-year old Brazilian-born New Zealander was vital in the Phoenix’s come-from-behind extra time win over the Newcastle Jets on Saturday and would love to start at the Sydney Football Stadium against Sydney FC on Saturday but admits as long as the team wins, he will be happy.
"I think I did a good job against Newcastle (as a substitute), but it's better if I start, then I can play more time,” he said.
"I think we can go to the final.
"It doesn't matter who starts against Sydney. In my opinion, we have the best group in the league because in this match we could have a bench that includes me, Diego, (Eugene) Dadi, (Jon) McKain (back from suspension) and (Michael) Ferrante.
"Sydney are a good team with a good coach and it's difficult for us to play away , but we have belief in ourselves."
Coach Ricki Herbert admitted things had been tough for Daniel lately as he has been playing well when on the pith but the fact the ‘Nix have been winning has made his selection dilemmas very difficult.
"There's a responsibility to come on and change the game and I'm pleased with Daniel," Herbert said.
"He's been in a good space for a while. With the team winning, it's been tough to start him but he's certainly important to us."
