Wellington Phoenix on verge of finals after demolishing Perth Glory
Wellington Phoenix have moved within a point of the final six thanks to an easy 4-0 win over Perth Glory. A 10th minute mistake from Glory keeper Tando Velaphi handed the home side the lead before they produced a barrage in the second half to stitch up all three points, giving themselves every chance of qualifying for the play-offs for the second year running.
GOAL The Glory custodian somehow managed to knock the ball into his own net after Nick Ward's header hit the crossbar before Dylan Macallister was the recipient of a perfect free-kick in the 49th minute for the second GOAL.
GOAL The Phoenix went three-nil ahead just before the hour-mark when substitute Vince Lia volleyed home his second career goal before Chris Greenacre wrapped up proceedings with the fourth GOAL with a header in injury time.
The victory allows the New Zealand club to go to 32 points, one ahead of eighth-placed Newcastle Jets and one behind sixth-placed Melbourne Heart, who have played two extra games.
The Glory's disastrous season is seemingly over as they sit 10th - 10 points out of the finals.
