Wellington Phoenix still deciding on Elliott

Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert confirmed discussions with New Zealand national team midfielder Simon Elliott were ongoing.

The 36-year old is still without a club despite being an All Whites regular and there is speculation that he may be snapped up by the Phoenix.

Herbert did admit there was some interest from the club but said nothing had yet been sorted.

"There's probably a few discussions to have but whether it happens or not, we'll see," Herbert said.

"We've met, we've both spoken and it kind of sits there. It's up to both those parties to maybe agree or not agree.

"From Simon's point of view, whether it's a shorter-term or a longer-term somewhere else around the world, there's been some dialogue and if we make it happen we do."

With the midfield strength at the Phoenix, it would be tough to fit Elliott in but Herbert said the former LA Galaxy, Fulham and San Jose Earthquakes man may be pursuing other options anyway.

"He's probably at that critical stage now but he's just playing so well," Herbert added. "It's not age, it's not anything, I guess it's opportunities he's seeking. I can't support that any more than what we've done so far."
